ABOUT
HAL is a self-taught oil painter based in Melbourne. Originally from a coastal town in New South Wales, Hal's work reflects an ongoing tension between the demands of city life and a longing for a deeper connection to nature. Working over extended periods, HAL builds rich, layered hues in a slow, methodical process. Both the process and the result is their way of reconnecting to nature’s energising tranquility.

This is the second peice in my series from the Great Ocean Road in Victoria. Following on from GOR.01, I finished my evening camping by the fire and mesmorised by it’s ferocity and ability to spread light.
           With this piece, I tried to exude as much light and saturation as I could from a flat, non-lit surface. The centre highlight pulls your focus while your peripherals are challeneged to focus on either the bright yellow or deep red. The result causes a pull towards the canvas – much like a fire on cold camping night.
